I was really looking forward to Tron Legacy. The original Tron was one of my childhood favorites. I saw the trailers for the new film and was excited. Then around last week, I became worried when i started to hear mixed reviews. Some said it was just ok. I heard one that said they hated it more than The Phantom Menace!! But I try not to let early reviews cloud my judgement. Let's face it, this is a Disney movie! It's not supposed to be high drama. It's a fun popcorn movie.

So my friend and I marched off to the theater and walked in with my ticket and 3-D glasses in hand. (It had been a while since I saw ANYTHING in 3-D!) The preview for Pirates of the Caribbean looked AWESOME in 3-D! So I thought maybe the reviews were wrong. This movie might be great!

In 1989, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), an innovative software programmer and the CEO of ENCOM International, tells his eight-year old son Sam (Owen Best) about a new "digital frontier" he has created called The Grid, a virtual domain existing inside the game system. Kevin tells Sam of the two programs helping him, Tron and Clu. Tron keeps The Grid secure, while Clu is tasked with creating the perfect system.

Twenty years later, Sam (Garrett Hedlund), haunted by Flynn's mysterious disappearance, investigates a page that originated from a supposedly disconnected number at Flynn's long-shuttered arcade. Exploring the arcade, Sam discovers a concealed door leading to a computer laboratory in the basement. Attempting to discover what his father was doing by calling up the command logs and reissuing the last command entered Sam activates a digitizing laser which transports him to The Grid.

We spend about 20 minutes in the "real" world. Then we are in the computer! The special effects look great. They really did a great job of updating them for the 21st century. The problem is with such a big gap in time between films, there is lots of explaining to be done. Which is fine. We want the answers. But the story needed a few re-writes. All the special effects in the world can't make up for a bad story.

Once father and son reunite, we find that Flynn has been in the computer for a long time. A really long time. Time goes much faster in the computer than in the real world. And in his time in hiding, he as almost become a zen like master. When Sam runs off to save them both, Flynn has to jump into action and his response to Sam is "You're ruining my Zen thing man!" (the best line of the movie, by far...)

I understood the story, but for some reason, it just wasn't enough. It needed more. And as for the 3D, I really didn't think it added anything to the film at all. But, at the end of the day, it's still a Disney film. So it was better than most films, but after so many good films over the years, I kinda hold them to a higher standard.

And let's face it, who wouldn't want to go into a computer? For the last few years, I've been addicted to Twitter. I could just imagine the addiction if I was in the damn thing!

So unfortunately, I would have to say that this is a wait and rent it film... Maybe the next one will be better?

Bad to the Bone - Megamind Review

I saw Megamind yesterday. It was a roller coster of a good time. Here is the info from Wikipedia:

Megamind (Will Ferrell) is a super-intelligent alien who-- at the age of eight days old-- is sent to Earth from his home planet during a time of crisis. However, he lands in a prison thanks to another infant alien similarly sent from a different planet who eventually becomes a superhero known as Metro Man (Brad Pitt), defender of the fictional Metro City. As a result, Megamind is raised as a social deviant, who is neglected for his destructive intellect, with his fish-like sidekick Minion (David Cross) as his only friend. Realizing that he enjoys causing trouble, and jealous of all of the attention Metro Man receives, Megamind becomes a super villain to rival Metro Man, though he is thwarted on a regular basis. During one of his many attempts to defeat Metro Man, Megamind kidnaps news reporter Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey) and uses her as bait to lure Metro Man into the city observatory where Megamind intends to kill him with a death ray. The plan appears flawed enough for Metro Man to escape, but he proclaims that the inside of the observatory is lined with copper, which he says drains his power. Metro Man is apparently killed by the death ray, allowing Megamind to take over Metro City. Megamind is initially thrilled that he has finally defeated his archenemy, but soon grows depressed over the fact that without someone to fight, his life as a super villain no longer has any purpose.

The basic story will be familiar to any sci fi fan. It's Superman's story. But when the "hero" is out of the picture, what is the villain to do?

It's a very interesting idea. I think that it touches on some very basic needs. First and foremost, what is the meaning of life? What makes us happy? And what will we do when we get it all? (Pretty heavy stuff for a cartoon.)

Don't get me wrong. This movie is full of laughs. It's loaded with gags for the kids, but there are lots of jokes for the parents. For example, when Megamind takes over, city hall gets posters that say, "No You Can't" (mocking the famous Obama, "Yes, We Can" poster.)

There are lots of similar 'adult' jokes in there.

The supporting cast is there and they do a very good job moving the story along. But the main focus in on Megamind himself and his journey of self-discovery. And lets face it, anyone with a giant blue head that's as funny as Will Ferrell, can't be all "bad" can they? :)

This trailer combines Inception with Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure! One of my all time favorites from the 80's!! I think it makes it look much more intense!!

Big Dreams - My Review of Inception

Sometimes a movie comes along that just grabs everyone by storm. Inception is just one of those films. It's a smart action movie that pulls off the impossible. Instant positive word of mouth with a crazy trailer, has made it the 'must see' movie of the summer.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays "Dom", the leader of a very unique band of thieves. They sneak into people's dreams to steal or "extract" information from people's minds while they are sleeping. But for his final big heist, his job is not an "extraction" but an "inception". His job is to input (or 'insert') a idea into his target's head. Which seems to be much more difficult.

That's where the film gets tricky. In order to complete the mission, they must go deep into the subjects subconscious mind. How do you do that? You enter a dream within a dream, within a dream. To make this even more confusing, time and the laws of physics is different in each of these dreams. (5 minutes of dreams = 1 hour in dreamland) It makes more sense when you see the movie. (Just try not to run out to the restroom or you will be totally lost.)

It sounds like fun, right? Walking around in a dream doing anything? Well, not so much. It turns out that even the subconscious mind can see invaders and will do anything to protect the dreamer. To add even more problems to the already difficult mission, "Dom" is loaded down with his own emotional baggage dealing with his late wife. That doesn't sound too bad, but when your workplace is dreamland, your late wife can show up at anytime and throw a monkey wrench into the works.

Inception keeps you on your toes never knowing where you are going. Director Christopher Nolan has made an instant classic sci-fi film which will keep people dreaming about it for years!!

"A Good Plan." My Review of The A-Team

Some movies are made as high art. Some are to made to make a statement. Some are made to tell a moving story. The A-Team is none of these types of films. It's a big ridiculous action-packed summer blockbuster!! And I loved every silly minute of it!!

Anyone who knows the TV Show from the 80's will know the basics. Four soldiers accused of a crime they didn't commit, on the run from the law. This film is the origin story. How they met and how they were set up. No heavy plot to get in the way. It's more like 'Get your guns and choppers and shoot something!' The action is non-stop.

The cast is excellent. Everyone has their moment to shine. Liam Neeson plays the leader John "Hannibal" Smith. Always with a cigar in his mouth and a overly complicated plan. Bradley Cooper is Templeton "Faceman" Peck. He always has an eye for the ladies. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is Bosco Albert "B.A." (Bad Attitude) Baracus. A tough guy's tough guy, that's afraid to fly. Sharlto Copley rounds out the team as H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock. Who is just plan crazy. Jessica Biel is also in there. But her and the rest of the cast seemed to have gotten the short end of this script.

But the script and story is really the least of your worries. Don't try to use logic with this film. It doesn't work. It's much more fun to sit back and let the bullets fly. Or tanks. Don't ask. :)

This video has made it's way to YouTube. It seems to be a new trailer for Mortal Kombat. Normally when I put a movie trailer up, I get all the info. Cast/crew, etc. But this one seems to be shrouded in mystery. I could not find the "official" site or wikipedia page. (If anyone knows what it is, please tell me!)

The best I could find was a few small bits of rumors on this IMDB page.

A Fist Full Of Metal: Iron Man 2 - My Review

Iron Man is just cool. Plain and simple, no questions asked. Who wouldn't want a suit that gives you super strength, let you fly like a rocket and the ability to put a hole in anything you aim your hand at? No magic, no alien powers. Just a crazy powerful suit. I think that is one of the reasons Iron Man is so popular. Anyone in the suit has the power. But with a super suit, comes super problems for our hero, Tony Stark.

And does he ever have problems. His multi-million dollar company needs guidance, the government wants his suit, a secret spy agency is watching his every move, some crazy Russian with whips is after his head and the very suit that keeps him alive is slowly killing him. That's a lot to pack into a 2 hour movie.

But if anyone can pull it off, it's Tony Stark. A truly flawed hero if ever there was one. The story picks up 6 months after the first movie. The world knows that Tony is Iron Man and all the fame and glory is feeding his ego to the max. Robert Downey Jr. plays the role to near perfection. You can tell he is having too much fun playing this part. Downey is like a kid in a candy store! He makes us cheer for Tony, even when he has laps in judgement. (Watching a drunk Iron Man have target practice during his birthday party is both cool and disturbing at the same time.)

Mickey Rourke plays Iron Man's rival, Whiplash. Covered with tattoos and talking with a thick Russian accent, he really looks like a true evil genius. Every line he says drips of poison and hate. (One of his scenes scared a little kid in front of me so bad, that his parents has to take him out of the theater!)

There is a large supporting cast. Mostly because of the other Marvel Movies that are in our future. This makes the film fun. Always looking for the next reference. But it also makes the movie very dense. But it's OK. Tony's wisecracks keep you smiling and laughing the entire time. And when he isn't joking around, he is kicking butt in the suit. It has lots of great action.

People on Twitter have been asking me a lot about the film. (Really it's because I had Iron Man as my Twitter Avatar pic for over a year. Not for any special reason, I just thought it looked cool!) But I think I will leave the Iron Man suit to Tony. It was a very fun film and I eagerly await the next nugget of goodness from Marvel!

This is a new film from Christopher Nolan. When you see the trailer, you really don't know what is going on. When you find out lots of it takes place in dreams, then it makes more sense.

You've heard that Twitter is the hot new, thing on the Internet. Everyone is talking about it. You've heard it's the place to advertise your business, but you don't know where to begin.

You are most likely busy running your business and don't have spare time to be on Twitter anyway. That's where I come in. I can tweet for you! I have been on Twitter for just over one year. In that time I have gained over 19,000 followers. I have become friends with several of the most influential people on Twitter. I've done this by sharing. Sharing little things about myself. Also, sharing helpful info that others would like to pass on to others.

That's all well and good. But what does that have to do with you and your business? My main goal is to drive traffic to your website/business. We can start a Twitter account for you. Then I can 'tweet' your info out. Your website, your phone numbers, special sales, etc. (This can be anything you want and I can change at anytime.) But that alone is not enough.

On Twitter, you are only as good as your last or next tweet. What does that mean? Consistency. Twitter is all about being social. Interacting with others and sharing info and ideas and yourself. We need to give people a reason to follow and 'retweet' from your business twitter account. (I have found that the retweet is the best way to get new followers and get your message out on Twitter.)

What I have come up with is more "tweets" to get people to follow you on Twitter. In addition to your business info, I will tweet a steady stream of helpful info tailored to your customers. Have a travel agency? I can tweet helpful travel tips. How about a hardware store? We can tweet helpful home repair tips! The possibilities are endless! These subjects are very flexible and again can be changed at any time. On a daily basis, I will search Twitter as well as other sites like Google to find new twitter content for you.

Also we can come up with special hashtags (a way to index your tweets) so your business tweets can be found quickly. (Even by people who are not following you!)

While I cannot tweet 24/7 for you, I will be able to consistently tweet everyday for several hours. I will tweet your business info, look for new content, interact with others, follow people back and forward their questions and comments to you. Using this method I was able to help one customer gain over 1,900 followers in just over five months!

Here is a movie trailer for Law Abiding Citizen. It seems like a decent thriller. And I like the cast.

Law Abiding Citizen is a 2009 thriller film directed by F. Gary Gray from a screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer, and starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. The film takes place in Philadelphia and tells the story of a man who decides to exact justice on his family's killers, as well as the criminal justice system. Law Abiding Citizen was released theatrically in North America on October 16, 2009.[3]

The movie came and went from the theaters. But watch the trailer and then check out what some people did to it! They took the cast from the popular video game, Team Fortress 2 and it looks very different! :)

I've seen the 'dirty' and 'clean' versions of this video. And they are both weird. I'm putting the clean version here. The 'dirty' version is out there if you look for it. But here is Lady Gaga, doing her thing. This time with Beyonce! The song itself is kinda catchy. I like it! What do you think?

Here is the new trailer for Robin Hood! When I first heard that they were going back to do this again, I thought 'oh no, not again'. But after seeing the trailer, I'm very interested!

Robin Hood is an upcoming film based on the Robin Hood legend, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe. It is due for release on May 14, 2010.[2] The film began development in 2007 when Universal acquired a script entitled Nottingham, depicting a heroic Sheriff of Nottingham to be played by Crowe. Scott's dissatisfaction with the script led him to delay filming, and during 2008 it was rewritten into a story about Robin Hood becoming an outlaw, with the position of being Sheriff as part of the story. Scott dropped the latter notion and Nottingham was retitled to reflect the more traditional angle. The trailer was shown in front of Avatar and also in Sherlock Holmes.

It is late 12th century England and Sir Robin Longstride, Earl of Huntington, (Russell Crowe) has returned to his northern English village after fighting in the Third Crusade. This is our first peek at Robert Rodriguez's new take on the Predator!! A sci-fi favorite for sure. I had hear rumors about the film. But after seeing this, I am very excited to see it!

Better than paper towels and a lot less expensive...Coffee filters....Who knew?!

And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Stores for almost nothing; even the large ones.

Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave.

Coffee filters make excellent covers.

Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome.

Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.

Filter broken cork from wine.

If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

Protect a cast-iron skillet.

Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

Apply shoe polish.

Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

Recycle frying oil.

After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

I saw this today. I had forgotten how funny it is. It's a classic bit from the Masters of Comedy Abbott and Costello. Alyssa Milano posted it on her @TouchByAM Twitter account today. I watched and laughed and smiled a lot. So I thought it deserved a Blog Post.

It's the classic "Who's on First?" routine. Arguably their best work ever. Here is the history from Wikipedia:

"Who's on First?" is Abbott & Costello's signature routine. They always referred to it informally as "Baseball." Depending upon the version you are hearing, Abbott has a) organized a new baseball team, and the players have nicknames; or, he is pointing out the proliferation of nicknames in baseball---usually launching a variation on St. Louis Cardinals sibling pitchers Dizzy and Daffy Dean, before launching the routine with the infielders' nicknames of Who (first base), What (second base) and I Don't Know (third base). This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1909. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some statistics for the Year 1909 :

The average life expectancy was 47 years.

Fuel for the 1909 Ford Model R was sold in drug stores only.

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!

The average wage in 1909 was 22 cents per hour.

The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year ..

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

I thought I would try something new here. From time to time, we all get these email stories/jokes. I think some of them are funny and maybe deserve a chance to be posted here. This one came from my good friend Loren.

If you've ever worked for a boss who reacts before getting the facts and thinking things through, you will love this! Arcelor-Mittal Steel, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers.

On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, "How much money do you make a week?" A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, "I make $400 a week. Why?" The CEO said, "Wait right here."

He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, "Here's four weeks' pay. Now GET OUT and don't come back." Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, "Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?" Funny Hitler videos?

I have recently found several videos online about Hitler. These are not endorsing him or his evil deeds, (nor to I). But these videos are meant to be funny. They take footage from the 2004 movie Downfall and change the subtitles. Some of the videos are re-edited with other footage.

Since only the subtitles need to be changed, these videos can be made really quickly. For example. Hitler responds to the iPad. The Apple press conference was yesterday! And the video is out today!

Regular readers know I am a fan of Saturday Night Live. Here is the next film based on one of their skits. MacGruber! The sketch is a parody of the 1985-1992 adventure series MacGyver.

A Bad Day.

I'm going to apologize in advance for this long and rambling blog post. I know not my usual fair, but felt like I had to get this out. Thanks in advance for your indulgence...

Today was a very bad day at work. I know that everyone has them from time to time. But it always seems worse when it's happening to you.

It's part of life. When your school is done, you go out into the world and get a "real" job. And you do the best you can. You don't ask why, you try not to complain (too much), but you overall get the job done.

It has been building for sometime and today was the tipping point. I cannot go into specifics of what happened today. (I have recently found out that my employer has been monitoring my "online" life.) But it's safe to say, that I have made mistakes and they have caught up to me.

Everyone makes mistakes. It's part of being human. You learn from them and move on. You try very hard to be the best employee that you can be. But sometimes that's not enough. Sometimes your mistakes become to frequent. Eventually, they will overshadow you. Sometimes it's a bad combination of unrelated factors. What works in the past is not the same that will work in the future.

Sometimes when you get THE bad day to end all bad days there is nothing that you can do. You must sit there and take your punishment. If the punishment is bad enough, it will have far reaching effects. Effects that you couldn't even imagine. It could effect your income and therefor your comfort of living. It could effect your future. Literally taking 2 steps back from where you where. (You can see where I am going with this...)

At first I was mad. Mad at myself for letting things get this out of hand. But after that passes, I just felt numb. But you cannot go back. You can only go forward. So I did what I could to make the best of a bad situation. I'll let you know how it turns out.

But as I sit here and type my tale of woe. My "Ultimate bad day". I'm watching the news and seeing the horror of the earthquake in Haiti. My bad day looks laughable by comparison. I still have a roof over my head, food on the table and family and friends to lean on. 100,000 others in Haiti are not so lucky. It was an odd juxtaposition. It helped to put things in perspective. Made me focus on what's important.

Where do I go from here? I don't know. For now, I will have to stay put and swallow some bitter pills. But from there? The future is limitless.

I guess what I'm trying to say is from time to time you have to take your lumps. But get up and keep going. To quote my favorite Star Trek episode, Tapestry, "If you want to get ahead, you have to take chances, stand out in the crowd, get noticed." Don't be afraid to take chances. But learn from your mistakes. "You must unlearn what you have learned." To quote Star Wars.

Be careful what you put online. You never know who is watching.....

In Part 1, we went over the rules of Twitter. Here we will talk about your twitter bio and picture.

After you jump in with 2 feet and set up your account, you have to "introduce" yourself to others with a witty bio and neat picture. Both are super important!

Your bio has to be 160 characters. And it can be anything about you. My bio is "Ask no questions, find no answers, live with problems." It was an old saying we used to say in college. I thought it was funny. And it gets lots of comments. But your can be anything. Your job, your hobbies, your favorite tv shows, etc. Try to be clever and think of something. Whatever you do, DO NOT leave it blank.

Next you have to choose an picture or "avatar". Twitter suggests that you use a real pic of yourself. I do not have real pic of myself. When I joined last year, The Iron Man Movie was still hot and in my mind. I grabbed a pic and made it my avatar. I sometimes think of changing it, but I think I will keep it. It gets alot of comments and people know it's me when they see it. And that is the important use of the picture. When people see their tweets, they could be scanning dozens maybe hundereds of tweets. ANYTHING that makes you stand out it a good thing.

You maybe temped to change your picture. You can at anytime, but I would advise against it. Some people may not know it's you! And you want to stand out. Not hide!! :)

Twitter is big these days. Very big. Me and lots of others are on it all the time. I joined in January of 2009 and since then have grown to love it and I'll admit that I'm totally addicted. I'm @dudeman718 ! Follow me! (Shameless Plug!) After talking with some other people on Twitter, I thought others may like to know how I see Twitter and how I go about my daily Twitter routine. I will say that there are no "right" or "wrong" ways to use Twitter. This is how I see and use Twitter. These tips may or may not work for you.

When I started to collect my thoughts I found that I had way too much info for one blog post. So I decided that this will be part 1 of a series. How many parts will we have? Don't know yet! How often will I post them? As often as I can! So here we go! :)

First things first, if you've never heard of or don't know exactly what Twitter is, here is the first paragraph from the Wikipedia page:

"Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. While the service costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees."

We don't rent a lot of movies, but last weekend on a trip grocery shopping, we stopped by our Redbox vending machine and rented a movie. Bride Wars! I heard it was good and we felt like a romantic comedy.

But the negative reviews it received make that unlikely. If your looking for a cute movie with a laugh or two, check it out! :)

G.I. Joe Movie Review

On Thursday night, I finally got to see G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra! I have been wanting to see it but something always came up. The movie is based on the popular kids toys from Hasbro. As a kid, I did not have the toys, but I was a fan of the cartoon from the 80's. And this movie is very much in the same vein as Transformers 1 & 2. A big cheesy summer blockbuster film. Don't think war movie, think X-Men. While not all the characters are there, most of them are. And most of them have a neat back story to boot!

The basic plot (in a nutshell) is Cobra wants to do nasty things to the world and G.I. Joe team has to stop them. And both sides have all the latest and greatest toys at their disposal. The film looks great. You know you are watching a big cheesy blockbuster, but it's OK. You can sit back and watch the eye-candy wash over you. While there is violence, it's mild with little blood and gore, etc. You can bring the kids who might not get the details of the plot, but will enjoy explosion after explosion! :)

We also got our first look at the new Wolfman movie!! When I first heard about it, I was not too sure about remaking a classic. But after seeing the trailer, I am very excited to see the film! The remake stars Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. The plot follows the original, with a few changes.

We got our first look at James Cameron's new film: AVATAR! He has been working on this movie for a long time, 15 years! His last success was Titanic. The trailer has opened to mixed reviews. Can Cameron find success again? A select few got to see 15 minutes of this new film in IMAX 3D. We will have to wait until December to find out.

Last night, my good friend Tom and I went to the movies to see G.I. Joe. But we had just missed the last show by 10 minutes. However, we were just in time to see District 9, which we also wanted to see. So we decided on the sci fi movie. Calling this movie a science fiction only scratches the surface of this very complex movie.

The movie starts out as a documentary, very similar to Cloverfield. We learn that in this world an alien space ship appeared out of the sky 20 years ago! It was a large ship that just hovered over the city. Almost like the miniseries V or the movie Independence Day. But the aliens inside were not here to conquer us. The ship was filled with workers with no leaders. They were stranded here. Even more bizarre was the fact that the ship didn't land over Washington D.C. or London, but Johannesburg South Africa!

The "workers" were taken to "District 9" a refugee camp for the aliens. (Which are 6 to 7 foot tall insect like creatures.) This area quickly turned into a slum. After 2 decades of crime and trouble the local humans have had enough. The decision is made to have them moved to a new "camp". But before that the aliens must be served with eviction notices. That is where the story really starts. We follow one of these bureaucrats as he tries to serve the aliens with these notices. After getting sprayed with alien rocket fuel, he becomes very sick and strange things start to happen to him. He starts turning into an alien! He is quickly taken away by the government agency that oversee alien affairs. They don't want to help him, they want to harvest his body's secrets. Because the aliens weapons will not work for humans. Only for aliens. But because of his unique accident, he is the only human that can use all of the alien technology.

That's a lot to get your head wrapped around. This is a strange movie for sure. And it's set in a part of the world that we really don't get to see on film too much. It looks great and the special effects are very good. They don't overpower any seen, they make this "documentary" almost look real.

The reason I say that it's hard to leave District 9, is because this is a movie that will leave you deep in thought. At least I was after. When you see the harsh treatment of the aliens by the humans and how their 'inalienable' rights (pun intended) are taken away for their "own good", it's almost hard to watch. You almost want to say, is this a sci fi or a war crimes movie? If the aliens were taken out and replaced with any other human culture, the movie would be a hard hitting drama that shows a people's hard struggle.

The movie is very good and it's a must see. Be warned, it's rated R for language and violence. Leave the kids at home. But go see it. A great movie that will make you think. :)

I cannot stress how great this is! These series of books are my all time favorites!! It took Stephen King over 20 years to write these books. It follows the adventures of Roland the Last Gunslinger of a world that has moved on. Think a "fantasy western". But this western is not for kids. It is a very gritty and bloody tale that is full of magic and doors to wonderful and not so wonderful lands.

In the story, Roland is the last living member of a knightly order known as gunslingers and the last of the line of "Arthur Eld," his world's analogue of King Arthur. The world he lives in is quite different from our own, yet it bears striking similarities to it. I was watching Attack of the Show today and they highlighted this video. It is William Shatner on the set of Star Trek V. He is talking about a sequence in the movie. That may not sound very interesting. But after YouTube user: fallonyoursword69 gets a hold of it, the footage is re-edited and techo music is added. It changes everything!

The video is funny enough on it's own. But they couldn't stop there. They took it one step futher and made "William Shatner's Sex Hikes"?!? :)

For anyone who doesn't know, this week there is a comic book convention in San Diego. Check that, THE comic book convention is San Diego. What started out as a simple comic book convention, has turned into the sci-fi geek event of the year! Every movie studio is there showing exclusives. Every video game company is there showing the best of the best. If you want to promo anything in pop culture, this is where you go. Sadly, I am not there...AGAIN. But there are lots of people reporting and tweeting and taking tons of pics and writing blogs about their time there.

But besides the buzz and hype the real focus is on comics. This is where comic book characters become big summer blockbusters! Who knows what crazy mutant or super hero will become the next 'Batman' or 'Superman''s I, II, III, etc. I don't. But it's very fun to watch the madness unfold!

Hello! Some of you may have noticed that I haven't posted anything in a week! This is because our home pc was taken over by a computer virus! A very nasty one too! It shut down our wireless network, so I was unable to go on-line. I had my iphone, but it's really not the same.

The virus that we had was The SYSTEM SECURITY VIRUS. Here is a help page from PC Magazine. This program looks like an anti-virus program, but it is really the virus!! It takes over your computer and tells your "you have a virus, you better scan your pc now!" (with their program that does God knows what to your pc!) Until you run their program, you can't do anything. And I mean anything!! When you click on any other program, it pops up with a "warning" That program is infected too. It even goes so far to change your wallpaper with another "warning message". Elyse spent 2 days restoring the entire pc and rebuilding our wireless network.

If you get this nasty piece of software beware! Make sure your anti-virus programs are up-to-date!

Mean Robots Suck!

Last night my wife and I went to go see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. You might think that I didn't like the movie, based on my Title, but it's just a line from the movie! It was very good! I know that this film has gotten some pretty bad reviews. But I liked the first movie, so I was anxious to see this one. Whenever I go to a big summer-blockbuster, I kinda know what to expect. And this movie delivers the goods. I.E. giant robots fighting each other!

The movie takes place 2 years after the events of the 1st movie. There is a long and detailed plot, but the short version is the Decepticons want to destroy the Earth, the Autobots want to stop them and they need the humans to help them. That's really all you need to know. You strap yourself in and hang on for a wild ride!

Shia LaBeouf does a good job of playing Sam, the unlikely hero. There are just some roles that were meant for certain actors. Or roles that people were born to play. If someone else played Sam, it would just seem wrong.

Megan Fox is back as Sam's girlfriend. She has a couple of good scenes. Her and Sam seem to spend a lot of time, running from explosions. But she looks very good while she does it! :)

Most of the other 'human' characters are there, Sam's parents for comedic value. Josh Duhamel & Tyrese Gibson as soldiers fighting along side with the Autobots. But the real scene stealer is John Turturro who returns in the role of Seymour Simmons, a government agent who looking into alien activity. He has lots of funny lines and helps the movie move along.

If your expecting high drama or big belly laughs, you have lots of other choices this summer. But if your in the mood for a fun movie with tons of eye candy, this is it!

A Funny Thing Happened When the Stars Died...

This past week has been over-loaded with celebrities passing away! Everyone always says that they come in three's! But this time is really five!!! Let me explain.

On Friday, June 19, 2009, Gary Papa died. He was a local news sportscaster for WPVI-TV (ABC) in Philadelphia, PA. If you lived near Philly and watched sports, you knew Gary. He lost a very public battle with prostate cancer.

Then on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 Ed McMahon passed away. He was a TV icon and was known far and wide. But he was elderly, 86, he was also in poor health. So his passing was not a complete shock.

Then on Thursday, June 25, 2009, we had two! Both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson passed away. Farrah also had a very public battle with cancer. So while very sad, it was also not a complete shock.

It was Michael's passing that was the earth stopping event that made everyone stop and watch. To call the event shocking is an understatement! I remembered him in a blog post myself.

Then on Sunday June 28, 2009, Billy Mays passed away. He was know as that wild Pitchman who sells everything you didn't know you needed! This one was shocking only because of this crazy week! By this point, I was checking and re-checking news stories to make sure these are really true! There were rumors that Jeff Goldblum and others had passed away, but they proved to be untrue.

All these deaths are sad and the fact that they are all together is weird. But it was Billy Mays that hit me. Why? I was not a super-fan of his. I knew of him. I watched his show, Pitchmen on the Discovery Channel sometimes. But I didn't know him personally. No more than any other of the five from that week. What was different? It happened on Twitter. (I know again with Twitter, but stay with me on this.)

While on my way to work, Alyssa Milano put out a tweet @Alyssa_Milano, that said send your condolences to Billy Mays' son, Billy Mays III, who was also on Twitter @youngbillymays. I did not know he had a son! So I thought I would check out what he was saying about the situation. What I saw stopped me cold. He spoke of how he could not believe this. How it all seemed all too real. How he would try to stay strong during this difficult time. But mostly just how much he missed him. To him, Billy Mays wasn't the wild pitchman on TV. He was just Dad. His tweets showed his real raw pain. He would never again be able to pick up the phone and call his Dad. Never be able to ask him for advice. Never be able to share a joke with him. Never be able to tell him he loved him. It moved me in a unexpected way that I was not prepared for and I wept for him. After I got myself together, I called my Dad and told him what had happened. I (kinda) held it together and told him I loved him.

Which brings us to today. I sat down and wrote all this stuff down here. I guess the moral of the blog post is "Life is Short." We get so caught up in the day to day "little stuff", we forget about the "big stuff"! Don't wait until it's too late. Call your Mom or Dad, or that Aunt or Uncle, or Grandma or Grandpa. Tell them what's in your heart. You never know when it will be too late.

Unless you live under a rock, I'm sure you've heard the sad and shocking news of Michael Jackson's death.

It was one of those rare world-wide events that makes everyone stop and remember. All the 24 hour news channels drop everything else and it becomes the one and only story. I first saw the news on Twitter and then watched TV coverage with the rest of the world.
